Remote Online Notarization allows individuals to notarize documents entirely online using live audio-visual technology, without being physically present with a notary. It enables signers to complete notarizations from anywhere in the world, including after business hours, as long as they have internet access and a compatible device. This is how it works:
- Email the document to the notary, who uploads it to a secure platform and sends an invitation link.
- Verify identity by providing a government-issued photo ID and completing knowledge-based authentication (requires a U.S. Social Security Number).
- Review and edit the document online if permitted.
- Connect via live video with the notary using a webcam and microphone (Chrome browser recommended) to electronically sign the document.
- Pay and download the completed notarized document, which is also stored securely for future access.
Mobile or Traveling Notary Services
A mobile notary travels to a signer’s chosen location—such as a home, office, or other meeting place—to provide notarization services. This offers flexibility in scheduling and eliminates the need for a physical notary office.
- The signer must appear in person with a valid, government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver License, State ID, or Green Card). Copies are not accepted.
- Foreign IDs are accepted only for residential real estate transactions.
- Any required witnesses must be present with valid ID.
- Documents must remain unsigned until the notary witnesses the signature.
